Terra cotta pots look nice, but require a little extra watering!
Yesterday was the perfect evening to gather in a backyard, sip some iced tea, and talk about container gardening! Twenty people were able to join us for our free workshop on the west side, where we discussed watering, companion planting, soil health, pest management, and different kinds of containers.

Anna talks about good watering technique.
Thank you to local landscape architect/former Community Land Trust board member Anna van Lynden and our outreach director Jessica Knapp for leading the program—and to Jessica for hosting it at her house!

Jessica shows the workshop participants some of her potted plants.
If you missed out, don’t worry—we have another free gardening workshop next weekend on Saturday the 9th from 10:00-11:00. Experienced gardener Jenn Steinfeld will be on hand to show you how to use natural fertilizer to improve your soil and increase your yield as well as how to control weeds and pests, harvest your vegetables, and plan for the fall.

An example of companion planting: marigolds, basil, and tomatoes work well together.
The workshop will be at the Cadillac Drive Community Garden, which is located near the intersection of Early St. and Cadillac Drive; click here for a map. Sign up now by clicking “Register for an Upcoming Workshop” above!
